Santa Monica : Child Care Contract Awarded
A nonprofit group was awarded a 10-year contract to operate a child-care center in the vacant Clover Park fire station after a local company pledged to pay for renovation and start-up costs.
The Hill An’ Dale Learning Center was awarded the contract Tuesday by the City Council. The group will get $180,000 from Watt Industries Inc., which will raise the funds from local businesses. A company affiliated with Watt Industries will be the general contractor for renovation of the two-story station, according to a city staff report.
The center, which the group expects to accommodate up to 50 children by September, will provide reduced tuition fees for low-income families. The fire station is at the end of 25th Street across from Clover Park.
