COLLEGE SPRING SPORTS : West L.A.’s 8th-Inning Rally Drops Valley, 3-2, in Conference Opener

West L.A. College defeated Valley, 3-2, in the Mountain Valley Conference opener for both baseball teams Tuesday as Jeff Taylor singled in John Peet for the winning run in the eighth inning.

Valley’s Sal Villasenor tripled in the fourth inning and scored on a Chris Haslock sacrifice fly. Peet and George Pedre singled to drive in runs in the sixth for West L.A. (1-0), but Valley scored again in the seventh when Tim Riley scored on a wild pitch.

Valley (0-1, 8-5 overall) had 11 hits but stranded 10 runners. West L.A. had seven hits. David Dawson got the win for West L.A.

Softball

Cal Lutheran 12, Christ College 0; Cal Lutheran 3, Christ College 0--Cal Lutheran’s Wendy Olson and Karen Fauder each went 3 for 4 and teammate Michelle McCaslin was 2 for 3 in the first game of a doubleheader. Junior pitcher Kim Peppi had eight strikeouts and no walks while allowing only one hit. Cal Lutheran had 15 hits.

In the second game, Becky Wolfe struck out four batters for the Regents. McCaslin went 3 for 4 and scored two runs. Cal Lutheran had five hits and one error.
