College Baseball : UCSD Loses at Home Away From Home

Share

Unable to play on its own field of the recent rain, the UC San Diego baseball team traveled to Pomona Pitzer Friday afternoon to play a nonconference “home” game against East Connecticut State. But the Tritons might have been better off staying in San Diego as they lost, 11-6.

Jeff Johnson hit a solo home run for East Connecticut State, which was playing its season opener, and Peter Bard and Mike DeLucia each had three hits.

Bobby Natal hit a two-run homer for UCSD (6-10-1) in the first inning and Brian Rude hit a solo shot in the second.

Lovullo, who has five home runs in his last four games and seven overall, went 3 for 5 with six RBIs in the game, and set a Pac-10 record for home runs in an inning.

The Bruins (2-3 in conference, 14-9 overall) have hit home runs in 17 of 18 games.
