College Softball : Clark Pitches Top-Ranked CSUF to Win

Connie Clark pitched a complete-game, one-hitter and struck out eight Tuesday night to lead the top-ranked Cal State Fullerton softball team to a 6-0 win over seventh-ranked Northwestern in a nonconference game on Titan Field.

Terri Oberg’s three-run home run highlighted a five-run fifth inning for Fullerton, which improves to 20-3.

In community college action:

Rancho Santiago College 1, OCC 0--Kim Martin threw a no-hitter and struck out six to lead the Dons in a South Coast Conference game at Orange Coast College. Rancho Santiago (2-0, 12-2) scored in the top of the seventh inning when Lorraine Kalehuawehe singled, went to second on a passed ball, to third on a sacrifice and home on Rhonda Diede’s fielder’s choice.

Golden West 3, Cypress 1--The Rustlers scored two runs in the sixth inning on an infield out and a passed ball to break a 1-1 tie on their way to the South Coast Conference win at Golden West College. Stephanie Rowlett was the winning pitcher. Losing pitcher Karen Nakamaru threw a one-hitter but walked six. The Rustlers improve to 1-1 and 13-3. Cypress is 0-1 and 14-6.

Saddleback 1, Fullerton 0 (10 innings)--Teresa Brown singled in the bottom of the 10th inning, stole second and scored the game’s only run when the throw from the Hornet catcher went into center field, as the Gauchos defeated Fullerton in a South Coast Conference game at Saddleback. Lori Methot threw a complete-game, three-hitter and struck out four for the Gauchos (1-0 and 8-3).
