Former Dodger pitcher Steve Howe will sign with the San Jose Bees of the Class-A California League this morning, the team’s general manager said Thursday.

The signing will be announced at a press conference at Municipal Stadium in San Jose at noon. San Jose General Manager Harry Steve said that Howe will begin working out with the team March 28.

Howe, 28, has undergone rehabilitation for cocaine use four times. The left-hander last pitched for the Minnesota Twins for six weeks last season, posting a 2-3 record with a 6.16 earned-run average before being released on Sept. 17 after missing three games because of a drug relapse. He has been working as a sports commentator at a small radio station in Whitefish, Mont., since November.

Steve declined to disclose specific terms of the contract, but said: “Howe will sign a standard minor league contract.” He added that Howe’s contract contains a drug-testing clause.

San Jose is the only team in the California League without a player development contract with a major league team.
