San Diego Lions AA Division : Woodhouse Pitches, Hits Bonita Vista to 11-5 Victory

Bonita Vista’s David Woodhouse pitched five shutout innings and hit a three-run homer Monday to lead the Barons to an 11-5 win over host Crawford in the AA Division of the 36th Annual Lions/Mike Morrow Invitational baseball tournament.

Center fielder Billy Miller sealed the victory with a grand slam in the fifth as the Barons pounded out 12 hits.

The Barons continued to hit the ball well in their second game of the day, beating University City, 11-2, at University City.

Jerry Foncerrada hit a two-run homer in the third for the Barons.

In other games:

Orange Glen 5, Hilltop 2--Alex Borboa scattered three hits over six innings for the Patriots. Ray Chatton gave up one run in the final inning but earned a save. Orange Glen’s Ricky Martinez singled in a run to cap the three-run first.

Valhalla 5, Orange Glen 1--The Norsemen’s Steve Gomez had a no-hitter through six innings, but gave up two hits in the seventh. The Patriots scored an unearned run in the first. Valhalla’s John Ace was 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI, and Scott Dennison was 2 for 4. Ted Gilmore and Paul Donato also had two hits for Valhalla, which had 11 hits.

Valhalla 8, Kearny 1--Mark Anderson, Dennison and Gilmore all had two hits and one RBI to lead the Norsemen at home. Justin Post pitched five innings to pick up the victory.

Fallbrook 10, Crawford 7--Ty Barksdale hit a two-run homer in the fourth and Bill Dunckle added a solo shot in the fifth to lead the Warriors at Crawford.

Bobby Diaz and Troy Coronado each had two hits for Crawford.

Serra 7, University 6--Ronnie Lardizabal’s sixth-inning double drove in Jason Arzaga to give the Conquistadors the win.

Arzaga had a solo homer in the fifth.

Serra 3, Castle Park 1 (11 innings)--A Castle Park error in the top of the 11th inning scored Beto Rodriguez from third to give the Conquistadors the win.

Richie Calendar (1-0) pitched the final two innings.

Castle Park 9, Hoover 2--Jimmy Ayala drove in three runs with a double and a single to lead the Trojans at Hoover.

Hoover 10, University 5--Danny Clifford had four hits, including a home run, and drove in four runs to lead the host Cardinals. Gus Garcia and Ty Murphy each had two hits for the winners.

Mission Bay 8, Southwest 1--A three-run homer by Scott Vonderlieth and a two-run homer by Troy Mack powered the Buccaneers at home.
