College Softball : Martinez and Martin Team to Top Mt. SAC

Sandy Martinez went 2 for 4, tripled and scored the first run to lead Rancho Santiago to a 3-0 victory over Mt. San Antonio College Wednesday in a South Coast Conference softball game at Mt. SAC.

Laura Janzen squeezed Martinez home from third base in the third inning to break a scoreless tie and help provide the margin of victory.

The Dons’ Kim Martin (13-1) recorded her third consecutive shutout in conference play.

Rancho Santiago (24-4, 5-0) plays host to Fullerton Friday. Mt. SAC’s conference record fell to 0-5.

In other South Coast Conference action:

Saddleback 4, Orange Coast 1--The Gauchos scored one run in the second inning and added three more in the sixth at Saddleback. Roberta Forster drove in two runs for the Gauchos. Cindy Riviere (4-2) picked up the win. Saddleback (3-2, 10-5) is at Mt. SAC Friday.

Fullerton 8, Cypress 3--With the score tied at 3-3 in the third inning, the Hornets’ Chris Sison tripled in what proved to be the winning run at Cypress. Leslie Churan and Barb Platis each added three hits for the Hornets. Annette Gonzales pitched six innings and picked up the win. Kim Moudy had two hits for Cypress, which fell to 2-3 and 21-9. Fullerton raised its record to 2-3 in conference.

Golden West 1, Cerritos 0--Sandy Storer scored on a bunt single by Shelly Bojorquez in the fifth inning for the only run of the game at Cerritos. Lisa Brady (9-1) threw a four-hitter for the Rustlers. Golden West raised its record to 4-1 and 16-3. Cerritos fell to 3-2 and 18-7.
