A fight matching World Boxing Council super-welterweight champion Thomas Hearns against Mark Medal will take the place of a planned Donald Curry-Mike McCallum title bout on June 23 at Caesars Palace. Medal has won 24 of his 26 fights, with 20 knockouts, a spokesman for the hotel said Tuesday.

Also on the card will be featherweight champion Barry McGuigan in a title defense against Fernando Sosa, and former three-time champion Roberto Duran in a bout against Robbie Sims, half-brother of Marvelous Marvin Hagler.

The spokesman said the fight between Curry, the undisputed welterweight champion, and McCallum, who holds the World Boxing Assn. version of the 154-pound crown, was officially off. Promoter Bob Arum had announced the bout last month, but Curry had second thoughts about moving up too quickly in weight from 147 pounds and decided not to fight.
