San Diego Prep Baseball : Langevin Throws a One-Hitter to Lead Montgomery

Lee Langevin of Montgomery High School pitched a no-hitter for six innings Thursday before settling for a one-hitter as the No. 8-ranked Aztecs defeated Marian, 3-0, in a Metro Conference bseball game at Montgomery.

Langevin (4-0) allowed only a lead-off single to Mark Cisneros in the seventh inning in pitching his second shutout of the season. The senior right-hander blanked No. 2-ranked Valhalla, 6-0, in the GMC Tournament last month.

Langevin struck out five and walked one while improving his earned-run average to 0.53.

Robert Solis had two hits and two RBIs to lead the Montgomery offense. Solis tripled to drive in a run in the fourth and drove in a run in the sixth with a double.

Cisneros, who allowed only five hits, took the loss for the Crusaders.

Montgomery is 4-0 in league and 11-3 overall. Marina is 1-3 and 3-11.

In other Metro Conference action:

Southwest 7, Bonita Vista 5--Paco Silva had two hits and two RBIs as the Raiders (2-2, 6-6) overcame a 4-1 first-inning deficit and surprised the No. 9-ranked Barons (2-2, 10-6) at Bonita Vista. Silva pitched in relief in the bottom of the seventh inning and retired three straight hitters to earn a save. Bonita Vista’s Kip Korzep hit a two-run home run in the first.

Coronado 1, Sweetwater 0--Tom Jarvis’ first-inning double scored Nolia Duhala and gave the Islanders (2-2, 7-6) the win. Coronado’s J.D. Douglas pitched a three-hit shutout to earn the victory. Sweetwater starter Victor Ramirez allowed only four hits. The Red Devils are 2-2 and 5-10.

Hilltop 3, Castle Park 2--The defending 2-A champion Lancers (2-2, 5-7) defeated Castle Park (1-3, 7-7) thanks to a three-run, seventh-inning rally. Ward Lannom drove in the tying and winning runs with a single after Castle Park reliever Henry Monreal had walked in Hilltop’s first run. Robert de Perro pitched a complete game six-hitter.

Chula Vista 12, Mar Vista 7--Brian Murphy and Bob Bleisch each hit two-run homers in the first inning to lead the Spartans (3-1, 7-7) past Mar Vista (1-3, 5-7-2). Chula Vista picked up five more runs on seven hits in the second inning to clinch the win. Bleisch was 2 for 4 with the home run and a double, while Murphy was 2 for 5. Murphy (2-2) also pitched five innings to earn the win.

In the Grossmont League:

Grossmont 8, El Capitan 3--Shon Boney had two hits and two RBIs and Mike Clavell added two RBIs to help the Foothillers (4-1, 8-6) beat the Vaqueros (3-3, 9-7) at El Capitan. Lance Dickson pitched six innings to pick up the win as Grossmont moved into a second-place tie with Santana. Both are a game behind Valhalla, which plays Grossmont at Grossmont Tuesday. Ron Peeler hit a two-run home run for El Capitan in the bottom of the seventh.

Helix 3, Monte Vista 2--Rick Navarro pitched a complete-game five-hitter to lead the Highlanders (3-2, 5-8) past the Monarchs (0-6, 4-10) at Helix. Terry Mack had three hits and two stolen bases to lead Helix. Paul Howard hit a bases-empty home run for Monte Vista in the seventh.

Santana 6, Granite Hills 5--Mike Hook, pitching on two days’ rest, relieved in the first inning and went on to strike out 11 for the No. 1-ranked Sultans (4-1, 12-2). Hook (5-1) allowed one run after starter Mark Sherman allowed four. Catcher Jeff Gay was 4 for 4, including a bases-empty home run in the fifth, with three RBIs. Dale Henson was 2 for 2, had two RBIs and scored a run.

Mount Miguel 12, Valhalla 12 (7 innings, tie)--No. 2-ranked Valhalla (5-0-1, 12-3-1) scored seven runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to gain a tie in a game that was called because of darkness. Joe Crisci’s two-run single with the bases loaded completed the Norsemen’s comeback. Mount Miguel (1-3-1, 6-7-1) trailed, 5-0, after three innings before taking the lead with a six-run fourth. Bruce McClendon had a home run and three RBIs to lead Mount Miguel’s 13-hit attack.
