Orange County College Baseball Roundup : Belanger’s Three-Hitter Leads Fullerton to 8-1 Win

Mike Belanger pitched a three-hitter Sunday to lead Cal State Fullerton to an 8-1 win over Fresno State in Pacific Coast Athletic Assn. baseball action at Titan Field.
Belanger (6-2) has won three straight and has not allowed an earned run in his last 24 innings. He struck out eight and walked five.
Fullerton (6-6 in the PCAA, 29-16 overall) broke open a close game in the fifth with five runs. John Eccles hit a two-run home run, Pat Garman tripled in a run and Dann Howitt drove in another with a double. Garman added a homer in the eighth.
Fresno State (6-6, 21-22-1) scored an unearned run in the eighth. Fullerton had six errors Sunday.
The Titans had lost six of their last eight games before Sunday’s win, which snapped Fresno State’s five-game winning streak.
Fullerton plays at Loyola Marynount Tuesday.
Las Vegas 7, UC Irvine 4--Despite three home runs from first baseman Gene Roumimper, the Anteaters lost to the first-place Rebels (10-2, 28-12) in Las Vegas. Roumimper was 5 for 5 with two singles and four RBIs. He improved to .379 after going 9 for 13 in the three-game series. UC Irvine (4-8, 15-20-2) won the opening game Friday night but lost Saturday and Sunday.
After a first-inning single, Roumimper hit a two-run home run off Las Vegas winning pitcher Scott Lewis (7-3) in the third. He hit a solo home run off Lewis in the fifth and singled against him in the seventh. Roumimper led off the ninth with a solo home run against reliever Marty Lekueric. Roumimper has five home runs on the season.
