Pets are mysteriously vanishing from the streets of Bodega Bay and some were tortured to death in the scenic fishing town Alfred Hitchcock turned into a cinematic wildlife nightmare in “The Birds,” authorities say. Nearly two dozen cats and dogs have disappeared in the past several months, and some pets were found tortured, poisoned or shot, Sonoma County Humane Society officials said. At least one skinned dog was found recently in a crab net where it had apparently been used as bait, Humane Society spokeswoman Pam Brewer said. “We don’t have any information as to why this is happening,” she said. “We don’t have any real suspects.”

A $500 reward has been posted, Brewer said.
