Former WBC Champion Garza Meets Gomez in Irvine Marriott Fight Tonight
Former World Boxing Council super bantamweight champion Jaime Garza meets Mario Gomez in a 10-round main event on the Irvine Marriott boxing card at 7:30 tonight.
Winner of the WBC 122-pound title in 1983, Garza made one successful title defense before losing to Juan Meza in November, 1984. Garza, 25, took a year off before beating Arnel Azzoral at the Marriott in February.
Garza is 43-1 with 40 knockouts. The San Antonio-based Gomez is 19-5.
In other fights, Genaro Hernandez of Los Angeles meets Jorge Valdez of Mexico City in a super-featherweight bout and Dave Yonko of Long Beach meets Jim Ashard of Portland, Ore., at heavyweight.
Ricky Romero of Torrance meets Genaro Espitia of North Hollywood at 118 pounds, Lee Sentinella of Westminster meets Milton Bush of Huntington Beach at 162 rounds, Ronnie Guitierrez of Santa Ana meets Greg Ortega of Pomona at 130 pounds and Nacho Guerrero of North Hollywood meets Geraldo Lopez of Los Angeles at 138 pounds.
Tickets in all price categories go on sale at the Marriott this morning at 10.
