Tiffany Lass, brought along the inside by jockey Gary Stevens, caught and passed Life at the Top in the last jump Friday, winning the $187,850 Kentucky Oaks by a head before a Churchill Downs crowd of 58,893.

In a classy field that also included the previously undefeated Hidden Light, Tiffany Lass extended her winning streak to seven races.

Hidden Light, who had difficulty handling the track after four straight wins at Santa Anita, loomed in contention in the far turn but had nothing left in the stretch and finished seventh.

Tiffany Lass, earning $122,102 for her breeder and owner, Aaron Jones of Eugene, Ore., went off the favorite and paid $4.40, $3 and $2.80. Life at the Top, who protected second by a neck, paid $3.40 and $3.80 . Family Style, part of a three-horse entry trained by Wayne Lukas, paid $3.80 to show.

The rest of the order of finish was Classy Cathy, Arewehavingfunyet, Turn and Dance, Hidden Light, I’m Sweets, Dynamic Star, Lotka, Trim Colony and Ice Cream Social.

Tiffany Lass, a daughter of 1976 Kentucky Derby winner Bold Forbes, ran 1 1/8 miles in 1:50 3/5, which was more than two seconds slower than the track record.

Tiffany Lass, who won the first start of her career at Hollywood Park in December and has raced in Louisiana and Arkansas since then, will be heading back to California, according to trainer Laz Barrera. One of the races on the 3-year-old filly’s schedule is the Mother Goose Stakes at Belmont Park June 14.
