Maul Is Favored in Gymnastics Meet

Santana High School’s Eileen Maul, who won the San Diego Section diving championship last Friday, is expected to capture the section gymnastics crown at today’s 10 a.m. meet at Torrey Pines High.

Last year as a freshman, Maul won the section diving crown on a Friday and on the next day captured the gymnastics title. Last Friday, Maul won her second straight diving championship but finished third in the Grossmont League gymnastics finals.

“Last week I felt real tired after the diving and my mind wasn’t really in (the gymnastics competition),” Maul said. “Saturday, I will be more serious.”

Maul easily won the gymnastics title last year but said that this year’s competition will be much tougher. Maul’s strongest challenges are expected to come from Torrey Pines junior Lisa Cody and Mira Mesa sophomore Mindy Bailey.
