SCC Pitcher Otten Signs Free-Agent Contract With Cubs

Brian Otten, an NAIA All-American at Southern California College in 1985, has signed a free-agent contract with the Chicago Cubs.

Otten had a record of 8-6 with a 2.12 earned-run average for the Vanguards this season after a junior year in which he was 18-5 with a 2.61 ERA. He holds the SCC record for career victories (37). Otten, who graduated from Canyon High School, will report to the Cubs’ Class A affiliate in Geneva, N.Y., next week.
