Dick Kuchen, former University of California basketball coach, was named head coach at Yale, it was announced in New Haven, Conn.
Kuchen, who starts immediately, succeeded Tom Brennan, who resigned in April to become coach at Vermont. Yale finished the 1985-86 season with a 13-13 overall record and a 7-7 mark in the Ivy League.
After seven seasons, Kuchen resigned from Cal in March 1985, having compiled a record of 80-112.
