Scioscia Placed on Disabled List

Dodger catcher Mike Scioscia, who hasn’t played since Cincinnati Reds pitcher Tom Browning slid into his right ankle on June 9, was put on the 15-day disabled list Monday, retroactive to June 10.

Scioscia was examined Monday by Dr. Frank Jobe, who found a tear in the interosseous membrane, a thin sheet of fiber that holds the bones of the leg and the ankle together.

Dodger Vice President Al Campanis flew to Las Vegas Monday night to watch the Dodgers’ minor league team, the Albuquerque Dukes, before deciding which catcher will be promoted to take Scioscia’s place.

Jack Fimple and Gilberto Reyes have shared the position for the Dukes. Fimple is batting .254 with a home run and 16 RBIs. Reyes is batting .258 with 3 home runs and 19 RBIs in 41 games. Fimple has made one error, Reyes eight.

Scioscia rejoined the team in Atlanta, and will have alternating hot-cold treatments.

The Dodgers’ No. 1 catcher in the interim will be Alex Trevino, who is batting .222 in 26 games.
