Two fliers aboard an air tanker were killed when their plane crashed and burst into flames in rugged terrain near Angels Camp in Calaveras County, authorities said. The dead men were identified as Richard M. Boyd, 52, of San Diego and Clarence R. Lind, 44, of Sonora. They were on a training flight over Calaveras and Tuolumne counties in a Grumman S-2 tanker, but officials were uncertain who was at the controls, a California Department of Forestry spokeswoman said. She added that the crash triggered a 20-acre brush fire that required 137 firefighters for containment.
