State Suspends Chacon Indefinitely
The California Athletic Commission has suspended boxer Bobby Chacon indefinitely for problems with the law.
Executive Officer Ken Gray said the commission took the action Monday because Chacon’s recent arrest on assault charges in Oroville violated a condition required for retaining his boxing license. The former featherweight champion has caused a “discredit of boxing” in the eyes of the commission, Gray said.
He said Chacon can ask for a hearing to overturn the ruling at commission meetings July 18 at Los Angeles or Aug. 15 at San Jose.
Chacon, who is free on bail, last fought in October, and could attempt to fight out of state. Lou Anapolsky, legal counsel for the fighter, said the Commission’s action was expected.
Chacon, 35, is awaiting trial on two felony charges of beating a woman whom he later married.
