Haughton Critical After Race Spill
Hall of Fame harness driver Billy Haughton was in critical condition Saturday night with head injuries suffered in a race collision during an elimination heat at Yonkers Raceway.
Haughton, 62, was taken to Lawrence hospital for X-rays and then transferred to the Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla, N.Y., late Saturday night.
Haughton, who is also a trainer, was driving Sonny Key when the pacer collided with Crimson, spilling Haughton from his sulky.
Officials at the raceway said Haughton had been unconscious since the accident and had not regained consciousness at the hospital.
