The Region : Deputies Rescue Fishermen From Sea

Share

Five fishermen stranded on rocks near Marineland were rescued by sheriff’s deputies who nearly lost their helicopter and one of their men in a large wave. The five Los Angeles residents were fishing about 150 feet offshore when high tide stranded them, authorities said. A helicopter lowered a deputy onto the rocks and he helped hoist two of the fishermen into the aircraft before two large sets of waves knocked the deputy and three other fishermen into the sea. The waves rolled over the helicopter’s skids, but the pilot managed to power the craft out of the water. Three deputies watching from the shore dived into the ocean and helped lead the fishermen and the deputy to land.
