A tanker truck loaded with gasoline collided with a passenger car and exploded into flames along Interstate 5 in western Stanislaus County early today, killing five people, the California Highway Patrol reported.
The lone survivor of the 3:45 a.m. collision was the car’s driver, a Fremont man who airlifted to UC-Davis burn center with burns over 80% of his body. His dead passengers were identified as Donna Bracewell Holt, 30, her daughter, Kim, 10, and Linda Laccette, 29, all of Fremont, and Brandy McPherson, 4, hometown unknown. The truck driver was believed to be a 24-year-old Bakersfield man. Northbound and southbound lanes of Interstate 5 were closed for an hour until firefighters extinguished the flames.
