Los Angeles police vice officers posing as streetwalkers and their customers arrested 109 people on suspicion of prostitution-related offenses in the Hollywood area. Lt. Rich Wemmer of the Hollywood Division vice squad said police targeted neighborhoods with a record of prostitution activity. Seven of those arrested for prostitution were women and 46 were men, Wemmer said. “We consider the two-day operation a tremendous success,” he said. “We are seeing a tremendous decrease in female prostitution activity in the Hollywood area.” However, Wemmer added, male prostitution may be increasing.
