Carson : Annexation Hearing Set
The long-delayed move to annex 788 acres of county land on the city’s northeast border is back on track, with a public hearing scheduled Sept. 29.
The proposal passed one hurdle July 30 when the Local Agency Formation Commission gave a tentative go-ahead to the city’s plan, rebuffing competing proposals by Compton, which sought to annex part of the same parcel.
The city is notifying all property owners in the tract of the proposed annexation and state law requires an election if 25% or more of them object.
The parcel is bounded by Wilmington Avenue, Del Amo Boulevard and Alameda Street. Included in it are the Rancho Dominguez Adobe and Claretian Seminary and two mobile home parks.
Although the city attempted to include the land in its boundaries when it incorporated in 1969, the current push began 2 1/2 years ago when residents of the mobile home parks decided they wanted to be under the protection of Carson’s rent-control ordinance.
