Greg Rogan, a starting cornerback for the Ohio State football team, was arrested earlier this week by the State Highway Patrol and charged with speeding and drunken driving, according to a Columbus newspaper.

The disclosure of Rogan’s arrest came two days after Ohio State football Coach Earle Bruce announced that he had suspended three players.

The Columbus Dispatch reported in its editions today that Rogan, 20, a junior from Urbana, was stopped Sunday evening on Ohio 29, east of Mutual in Champaign County.

The car Rogan was driving was going 94 m.p.h. in a 55-m.p.h. zone, said Kevin Jewitt of the Highway Patrol.

After stopping Rogan, Jewitt said he noticed that Rogan showed signs of intoxication. Rogan was charged after refusing to take a Breathalyzer test, he said.

A court date has been set for next month, the newspaper said.

Bruce said Rogan’s arrest will not affect his starting status in Wednesday night’s Kickoff game against Alabama at East Rutherford, N.J.

Thursday, Bruce dismissed starting safety Terry White and substitute tailback Roman Bates for the season and suspended starting outside linebacker Derek Isaman for the Buckeyes’ opener against Alabama.

The Columbus Dispatch reported Friday that Bruce’s action came as a result of finding empty beer bottles under a bed in the hotel where the team is staying during summer workouts.
