Two young North Hollywood brothers who were seriously injured when the motorcycle they were riding exploded after being hit head-on by a car that had drifted into oncoming traffic on a Sun Valley street remained in critical condition Monday, authorities said.

Alfred Sefiani, 19, was transferred to Sherman Oaks Burn Center Monday from the intensive care unit of Holy Cross Hospital in Mission Hills, a nursing supervisor said. Sefiani suffered burns over 50% of his body and major head injuries in the 1 p.m. Saturday accident on Sheldon Street just north of Roscoe Boulevard, Los Angeles Police Sgt. Jim Gicking said.

Sefiani’s brother Carlos, 12, who was riding on the back of the motorcycle, was taken by helicopter to Childrens Hospital in Los Angeles, where he remains in critical condition with severe head injuries, a hospital spokeswoman said.
