A Garden Grove man who was shot in the head Saturday has died, authorities said.

Robert Charles Fiebrantz, 28, died Sunday at 4:20 p.m. at Humana Hospital in Anaheim, a coroner’s spokesman said.

James Lee Burgess, 46, of Huntington Beach was booked on suspicion of attempted murder shortly after the shooting early Saturday. He was re-booked on suspicion of murder Monday, police said.

The shooting occurred when Fiebrantz and a friend, Bradley Scott Tunby, decided to follow a man who had apparently picked up a prostitute on Beach Boulevard and “have some fun,” police said.

They followed the man’s tan pickup to a parking lot in Stanton, pulled alongside and told the driver: “We’re the police. You shouldn’t be doing this.”

Tunby told police the driver answered: “Get out of here--it’s none of your business” and then fired one shot, which hit Fiebrantz in the back of the head. Tunby drove the wounded man to the hospital, where he reported the incident to police.

Burgess was arrested in a parking lot near Beach Boulevard and Orangewood Street after he was identified by a witness who flagged down authorities. A .22-caliber revolver was recovered inside his truck, police said.
