Village Christian 10, Desert 8--Alex Hepburn’s 33-yard field goal in the third quarter proved to be the difference in the season opener for both teams.

The kick gave the Crusaders a 10-0 lead at the time. Desert’s Ray Johnson scored on a four-yard run with 6:29 left in the game, then ran for a two-point conversion to cut the difference to two points.

Village Christian took a 7-0 lead in the second quarter on a three-yard touchdown run by Scott Phillips. Phillips gained 42 yards on 10 carries and teammate Craig Hudspeth added 50 yards on nine carries. Crusader quarterback Christopher Johnson completed 12 of 23 for 101 yards.
