5 County Surfers Eliminated From Surfing Competition

OCEANSIDE — Five surfers from San Diego County were eliminated Wednesday in the $28,000 Stubbies Pro International Surfing Tournament at Oceanside Harbor Beach.
Joey Buran of Vista, Frank Madrid of Carlsbad, Paul and David Barr of Carlsbad and Chuy Reyna of Oceanside lost.
Today’s heats include defending champion and 17th-seeded Brad Gerlach of Leucadia, 31st-seeded Mike Lambresi of Oceanside and 32nd-seeded Chris Adams of Carlsbad.
The top 16 surfers from today’s competition, which begins at 7:50 a.m., will compete against the world’s top 16 surfers Friday and Saturday to determine Sunday’s championship matchups.
