WICKENBURG, Ariz. —
A 48-year-old hunter was killed instantly by a bullet to the chest when he tried to flush a rabbit from beneath a cactus by beating the plant with his rifle butt and the gun went off, authorities say.
Maricopa County Sheriff’s spokesman Jay Ellison said Paul Reece of Glendale, Ariz., was rabbit hunting with his brother in the desert Monday about 12 miles west of Wickenburg when the accident happened. Wickenburg is about 50 miles northwest of Phoenix.
