Pico Rivera : Parking Ban Adopted

Share

A ban on parking vehicles on front lawns and side yards will begin July 1, 1987. After months of debate, the City Council adopted the ban to improve the appearance of neighborhoods. In recent months, the city had received a growing number of complaints about residents storing or repairing vehicles on front lawns.

The council decided to wait nine months to implement the plan in order to give residents time to make other arrangements for parking. City parking enforcement personnel will enforce the new law, issuing warnings for the first violation. But the matter could be turned over to the Sheriff’s Department if the violator fails to eventually comply.

Those who argued against the ordinance said they must park on their lawns on street-sweeping days to avoid being ticketed. In response, the city is developing a new plan to sweep on opposite sides of the street on alternate days.
