Dave Walsh of Cal State Northridge was the top Division II finisher last week at the prestigious Stanford cross-country invitational.

The sophomore from Canyon High was 24th overall in the 10,000-meter race with a time of 31:52.

The CSUN cross-country teams will play host Saturday afternoon to the CSUN Invitational, which includes teams from UCLA, UC Irvine and Air Force.

Coach Eldin Onsgard is calling this year’s Pierce College water polo team the best in school history.

On Tuesday, the Brahmas upset Cuesta, which finished fourth in the state last season and was 25-1.

Add Pierce polo: All of Onsgard’s starters are from Royal High.

Test of strength: The Cal State Northridge women’s volleyball team, ranked No. 1 in the Division II coaches’ poll for the second straight week, will meet several Division I opponents this weekend in the National Invitational Volleyball Tournament at UCLA.

The Lady Matadors (16-1) will take a 15-match winning streak into the tournament, which begins Friday.

The Chapman soccer team will have revenge on its mind when it meets CSUN Saturday night at Chapman.

Last season, CSUN beat Chapman to win the California Collegiate Athletic Assn. championship, then knocked the Panthers out of the Division II playoffs.
