Machado Rushes for 175 Yards as Tustin Routs West Torrance

Lani Machado rushed for 175 yards and 2 touchdowns Friday night to lead Tustin High School to a 33-7 nonleague victory over West Torrance on Tustin’s Northrup Field.

Machado helped Tustin accumulate 395 yards rushing. Meanwhile, the Tillers held West Torrance to minus-17 yards on the ground.

The victory over West Torrance, the defending Bay League champion, improved Tustin’s record to 4-1. West Torrance is 2-3.

Quarterback George Menges completed 5 of 7 passes for 76 yards, giving the Tillers 471 yards total offense. Tustin ran 60 plays and the Warriors ran 35.

Warrior quarterback David Lacroix completed 11 of 21 passes for 128 yards and was intercepted by linebacker Kevin Hungerford and defensive back Tom Kotlar. West Torrance finished with 111 total yards.

Machado scored on a 49-yard run in the first quarter and had a seven-yard scoring run in the second period. He also had gains of 35 and 21 yards.

Fullback Chris Gankema, who rushed for 76 yards, scored on a 14-yard run in the third quarter. Halfback Aaron Cobb scored on a 69-yard run late in the game.

Tustin kicker Tim Kotlar also had a big night by making field goals of 32 and 39 yards.
