Sweetwater 27, Mar Vista 0--Scott Catlin had two touchdown receptions and intercepted two Mar Vista passes to lead No. 3 Sweetwater (5-0) at Mar Vista. Catlin scored on passes of 25 and 17 yards from quarterback Danny Aina, who also had a 12-yard scoring strike to Lorenzo Parra. Mar Vista (1-3-1) turned the ball over four times.

Point Loma 27, Clairemont 20--Johnny Stanley threw a 58-yard option pass for a touchdown to Kelby Downey with just over four minutes left to give No. 7 Point Loma (4-1) the win over visiting Clairemont (0-5). Stanley’s pass allowed Point Loma to overcome a big receiving day by Clairemont’s Brian Gibson, who connected with quarterback LaMont Jackson on scoring plays of 80, 92, and 59 yards. Stanley finished with 151 yards on 23 carries.

Orange Glen 24, El Camino 7--Quarterback Duffy Daugherty passed for touchdowns of 34 and 50 yards to lead 10th-ranked Orange Glen at home. Orange Glen (4-1) opened the scoring on its second play of the game, when Daugherty hit Scott Carlovsky with a 34-yard scoring pass. In the second period, Daugherty connected with Jasen Sowers on the 50-yarder. Garrett Crayton scored El Camino’s touchdown on a 48-yard run early in the first quarter. El Camino is 0-5.

Mira Mesa 21, Crawford 13--Essex Burton scored 3 touchdowns and ran for 153 yards in 33 attempts as Mira Mesa (3-2) beat visiting Crawford (2-3). Crawford quarterback David Edrozo completed just 6 of 16 passing attempts for 111 yards, but connected twice with Lou Coons for touchdown passes of 12 and 52 yards.

Grossmont 14, Monte Vista 0--The Grossmont defense forced eight turnovers--seven on fumble recoveries--and quarterback Mark Stillwell threw a pair of touchdown passes to lead the Foothillers (2-2-1) to a road win over Monte Vista (3-2-0). Stillwell threw a 17-yard touchdown pass to Ray Bassi in the first quarter and a 16-yard touchdown pass to Jim Eskridge in the fourth quarter.

University City 21, Brawley 0--Running back Darrin Wagner rushed 7 times for 117 yards, including a 70-yard touchdown run, to lead University City (3-1). Quarterback Brian Sexton was 6-of-7 for 85 yards and 2 touchdowns, 5 yards to Matt Kelly and 29 yards to Daron Thornton. University City’s defense has shutouts in each of its three victories.

Helix 6, El Capitan 3--Helix running back Kerry Barr scored on a 25-yard touchdown run with three minutes remaining in the game to lead the Highlanders (3-1-1) over El Capitan (1-4). Kurt Wilkins’ 25-yard field goal in the third quarter provided El Capitan’s only points.

Kearny 12, Serra 6--Darrell Hicks caught an 80-yard touchdown pass from Scott Welish with five minutes left in the fourth quarter to break a 6-6 tie at Serra. Serra (1-4) took a 6-0 lead in the first quarter on a one-yard run by Brook Hobson, but Kearny (2-2) tied the score on a 12-yard touchdown pass from Welish to Hicks in the second quarter. Welish completed 17 of 25 passes for 180 yards. Hicks caught four passes for 103 yards.

Mission Bay 12, St. Augustine 0--Ernest Johnson returned a kickoff 82 yards for a third quarter touchdown and Chris Fernandez added a 34-yard field goal to lead Mission Bay (1-4). Johnson rushed for 102 yards on 19 carries. Defensive lineman Jeff Berkley added a safety. St. Augustine is 1-4.

PALOMAR Vista 35, Poway 19--Tommy Booker rushed for 201 yards and 2 touchdowns on 22 carries for the win at Vista. Booker sealed the victory for top-ranked Vista (5-0) with an 83-yard touchdown run on a trap play in the third period. Poway (3-2) threatened in the second quarter after Paul Escola scored on a 17-yard run to clip Vista’s lead to 14-10. Vista had 418 yards total offense. “We weren’t as in synch as we usually are,” Vista Coach Dick Haines said. “But we still dominated. They gave us a rough time for a while.”

AVOCADO Carlsbad 15, San Pasqual 8--Todd Beck scored on a 3-yard run with 28 seconds left in the game to give Carlsbad the win at home. Carlsbad (2-0, 4-1) was helped when San Pasqual punter David Sorensen juggled a snap with 2:19 left in the game, and was tackled at the San Pasqual 28. Beck scored four plays later. San Pasqual (1-1, 3-2) scored first on a 12-yard run by Juan Garcia’s 12-yard run after a fumble recovery by Todd Blakely at the Carlsbad 26. Greg Beach’s 57-yard punt return for a score helped Carlsbad tie the game, 8-8, in the third quarter.

San Marcos 21, Escondido 20--San Marcos defensive end Jeff Scott tackled Escondido quarterback Tim Bone on a 2-point conversion attempt with 11 seconds remaining in the game to clinch the victory. Bone had just thrown his second touchdown pass of the night--a 10-yard pass to Mike Gurr--to bring Escondido (0-5) within range. Quarterback Rich Ebert ran for one touchdown and passed for another for San Marcos (2-2-1).

Oceanside 42, Ramona 0--Quarterback Rocky Aukuso threw two touchdown passes to Junior Seau and Greg Frazier scored twice rushing as Oceanside (4-1) rolled over Ramona (0-5). Shane Wiggins ran 22 yards for a touchdown and Noki Suimaono ran in an interception to complete Oceanside’s scoring.
