FALL SPORTS HIGHLIGHTS : McKenzie’s Sudden-Death Goal Gives CSUN 2-1 Win

Steve McKenzie’s goal at the seven-minute mark of sudden-death overtime gave Cal State Northridge a 2-1 victory over Cal State Dominguez Hills in a California Collegiate Athletic Assn. soccer match at Dominguez on Wednesday.

CSUN (9-2-1, 3-0 in conference) jumped to an early 1-0 lead when Steve Lazaris scored on a penalty kick at the six-minute mark.

The lead held up until Dominguez’s Glen Strachan scored at the 81-minute mark to tie the score at 1-1.

Dominguez dropped to 2-1 in conference and 7-5-1 overall.

BOYS CROSS-COUNTRY

Alemany 15, Bosco Tech 39--Jose Haro and Greg Jones led Alemany to victory in the Del Rey League dual meet at Alemany.

Haro and Jones tied for first place with efforts of 17:00 for the three-mile course. Alemany, the No. 6-ranked team in the Southern Section’s 3-A Division, is 5-0.

GIRLS TENNIS

Grant 4, North Hollywood 3--Naomi Katz led Grant in the opening 4-A League match of the season at Grant.

Katz was the only Lancer player to win a singles match. The other Grant victories all came in doubles competiton.

Stephanie Sasaki and Kim Keer won the top-seeded match, Hallie Wetzeld and Karin Berelowitz won the second-seeded match and Enna Hozumi and Julie Shibasaki won the third-seeded match.

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

Grant def. Van Nuys, 15-7, 15-6--Sophomore outside-hitter Shannon Marley of Van Nuys turned in a strong performance in the Valley East League match at Van Nuys.

Van Nuys dropped to 0-4 in league and 0-8 overall.
