HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL : Bell Keeps Harvard Out of Cathedral’s Reach

Share

Harvard running back Andy Bell didn’t have any trouble keeping one step ahead of the Cathedral defense Saturday afternoon. But the secret to his success was knowing when to slow down and let his teammate, offensive tackle Chester Koh, lead the way.

Bell scored three touchdowns behind the blocking of the 5-10, 198-pound Koh as Harvard beat Cathedral, 27-13, in a Santa Fe League game at Cathedral.

Bell rushed 24 times for 232 yards and scored on runs of 58, 21 and 10 yards.

“I didn’t think I played my best game this season but Chester’s blocking made things a lot easier,” Bell said. “The team was not fully mentally prepared and I was to blame as much as anyone else.”

The Saracens (5-1, 2-0 in league) never trailed in the game. But they needed three touchdowns in the third quarter to turn a 7-7 halftime score into a 27-7 lead.

Harvard didn’t need to pass in the second half because they were able to dominate Cathedral (0-6, 0-2 in league) on the ground. The Saracens ran the ball 31 times for 212 yards in the second half and out-gained their opponents, 386-220, in total offense for the game.

In addition to Bell, Harvard got a fine performance from Alex Huh, who rushed 16 times for 72 yards and one touchdown.

Cathedral quarterback Javier Lopez carried the ball 14 times for 82 yards and scored a touchdown on a 10-yard run on the first play of the second quarter.

Daniel Lorenzo scored Cathedral’s other touchdown on a nine-yard run early in the fourth quarter to cap the scoring.
