The Region : CHP Flags 9 in Tour Bus Safety Check

The California Highway Patrol sidelined nine tour buses and issued 150 citations for faulty brakes, bad tires and other violations during a weekend inspection on the road linking Los Angeles and Las Vegas. “Normally they are brake violations,” Officer Pat Shearer said. “This time it varied. We had an awful lot of registration and log book violations, and tire and wheel violations.” All buses heading south on heavily traveled Interstate 15 from midnight Saturday to midnight Sunday were routed to an inspection area set up at the Midway rest area, 30 miles north of Barstow. The inspections included mechanical checks of brakes, steering wheels, tires and suspension, and inspections of records. The violations were “a good indication that these bus inspections are needed,” Shearer said.
