Community College Roundup : Orange Coast Defeats Cypress, 16-3
Orange Coast College, ranked second in the state, defeated Cypress, 16-3, in an Orange Empire Conference water polo match at Cypress Tuesday.
The Pirates (18-1) remained undefeated in its ninth conference match as Eric Keller scored four goals and Karl Stewart and Kurt Christensen each added three. The Chargers are 0-9, 2-17.
In men’s soccer:
Orange Coast 6, Victor Valley 0--Curtis Watton, Bill Smith, Peter Meacham, Ryan Miller, Chad Cooper and Don Murphy scored for the Pirates (4-0-1, 6-5-1) in the Orange Empire Conference match at Victor Valley.
Cypress 1, Riverside 1--The Chargers led, 1-0, at halftime on a goal by David Chi, but the Tigers (2-2-1, 3-6-3) tied the Orange Empire League match at Cypress on a penalty kick. The Chargers are 1-3-1, 2-7-2 overall.
Golden West 1, Mt. San Antonio 1--Rustler goalie Tim Bontrager had eight saves and Robert Howerton scored once as Golden West (1-2-1, 6-5-1) tied the Mounties in a South Coast Conference match at Mt. San Antonio (0-2-2).
In women’s soccer:
Golden West 2, El Camino 2--The Rustlers’ Nina Berbiglia and Kelli Winkler scored in the first half, but the Warriors rallied in the South Coast Conference match at Golden West (3-1-2, 7-3-2).
In water polo:
Saddleback 13, Palomar 10--J.D. Dennis and Eric Long each scored three goals for the Gauchos (8-1, 13-3) in the Orange Empire match at Saddleback.
Golden West 14, Cerritos 2--Jason Jeffries scored five goals for the Rustlers (8-1, 15-3).
Rancho Santiago 17, Citrus 16--The Dons (14-4, 6-3) were led by Darin Haskins with six goals.
