CITY Marshall 21, Hollywood 18--Wide receiver David Terrazas caught a bounced lateral from quarterback Junior Cruz, acted as if it was an incomplete pass, then streaked 69 yards for the winning touchdown in this Northern League game at Marshall. Hollywood had taken the lead with 4:52 remaining in the fourth quarter on a 14-yard touchdown run by Diedrick Joseph, making it 18-14. Marshall is 2-0 in the league, 3-3 overall.

Garfield 20, Wilson 0--The Bulldogs took over possession of first place in the Freeway League with the win at Garfield. Johnny Gomez, the City’s passing leader, completed 19 of 30 passes for 258 yards, including an 11-yard touchdown pass to Ricky Sigala in the third quarter. In six games, Gomez has completed 80 of 133 passes for 1,158 yards and 9 touchdowns. Garfield, The Times’ No. 9 ranked team, is 5-1 overall and 2-0 in the league. Wilson is 4-2 and 1-1.

SOUTHERN SECTION Miraleste 13, Leuzinger 13--Both teams missed extra points on their final touchdowns as the Pioneer League game at Miraleste ended in a tie. Miraleste’s Mike Silane, who ran for 137 yards in 27 carries, broke a 7-7 tie with a four-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter, but the conversion kick failed. In seven games, Silane has gained 963 yards in 143 carries. Leuzinger came back to tie, as Craig Maningo threw a 20-yard touchdown pass to Gregory Franklin, but the Olympians missed a chance to win when their conversion kick also failed. Franklin scored Leuzinger’s first touchdown on a six-yard run in the second quarter. Miraleste’s first touchdown came on a 10-yard pass from Lou Budde to Max Schroeder. Miraleste is 4-1-2 overall, 0-1-1 in league. Leuzinger, the defending Desert Mountain Conference champion, is 4-2-1 overall and 1-0-1 in the league.

Baldwin Park 13, San Dimas 7--Rico Salcido completed 15 of 27 passes for 184 yards and 1 touchdown in the Montview League game at Baldwin Park. Salcido, in seven games, is 73 of 154 for 1,174 yards and 12 touchdowns. Baldwin Park, the No. 4 team in the Southeastern Conference, is 2-0 in the league and 4-3 overall. San Dimas, ranked No. 6, is 3-3 and 0-2.

Paraclete 34, Desert 0--The Spirits extended their unscored upon streak to seven straight games in a Desert-Inyo Large League game at Antelope Valley College. Paraclete has outscored the opposition, 284-0. Mike Orwatt scored four touchdowns for the second time this season, on runs of 1, 1 and 3 yards and an 18-yard pass reception. In seven games, Orwatt has scored 84 points. The Spirit defense limited the Scorpions to 68 yards total offense. Paraclete is 7-0 overall and 2-0 in the league. Desert is 1-6 and 0-2.

Damien 20, Claremont 9--Eric Henley rushed for 85 yards and 1 touchdown in 19 carries, and teammate Harold Geolingo of Damien added 56 yards and 1 touchdowns in 14 carries in the Baseline League game at Damien. Claremont took the lead, 9-7, at halftime on Jeff Flournoy’s 30-yard field goal. Damien went ahead for good in the third quarter on a 12-yard pass from Jim Irwin to Tim Winn. Damien is 4-0 in the league and 5-2. Claremont is 4-3 and 2-2.

Hawthorne 28, Inglewood 12--Yke Vallery went 80 yards for a touchdown on Hawthorne’s first offensive play, the third straight week that the Cougars have scored on their first offensive play, to spark Hawthorne to an Ocean League win at Hawthorne. Two weeks ago, Vallery scored on an 82-yard run against Leuzinger, and last week he scored on an 80-yard run against Beverly Hills. The Cougars made it 14-0 in the second quarter on a 14-yard run by Kevin Edison. In the third quarter, Richard Harrison scored on an 18-yard run for a 21-0 lead. On the ensuing kickoff, LaMont Hewitt raced 88 yards for a touchdown. Hawthorne’s final score came in the fourth quarter on a 12-yard touchdown pass from Curtis Conway to Treamelle Taylor. The win broke Hawthorne’s two-game losing streak. Hawthorne is 5-2 overall, 1-1 in the league. Inglewood is 1-6 and 0-2.

Bell Gardens 9, La Serna 7--Juan Cisneros kicked a 17-yard field goal with 15 seconds remaining to give Bell Gardens the Whitmont League game at Bell Gardens. The Lancers, with sophomore Albert Cabral completing passes of 20, 20 and 8 yards in the last 1:32, set up the field goal. Bell Gardens, the No. 4 team in the Eastern Conference, is 7-0 overall and 4-0 in the league. La Serna is 4-3 and 3-1.

Muir 34, Arcadia 0--Ricky Ervins had 24 carries for 215 yards and 3 touchdowns in the Pacific League game at Pasadena City College. In seven games, Ervins has 1,018 yards and 14 touchdowns in 136 carries. The Mustang defense was led by Tony Crutchfield, who had nine tackles. Muir, the No. 1 team in the Coastal Conference, is 7-0 overall and 2-0 in the league. Arcadia is 4-3 and 1-1.

Beverly Hills 30, Mira Costa 24--Willie Crawford rushed 27 times for 199 yards and had touchdown runs of 16 and 17 yards to lead the Normans to an Ocean League win at Mira Costa. Crawford accounted for 293 yards in total offense. Dan Allen completed 22 of 38 passes for 258 yards and 3 touchdowns for Mira Costa. Tim Fletcher caught 12 passes for 161 yards and 1 touchdown for Mira Costa. Beverly Hills led, 30-14, but Allen brought Mira Costa back to within 6 points with 2:01 remaining, but the Mustangs could get no closer as Beverly Hills ran out the clock. Beverly Hills is 6-1 overall and 2-0 in the league. Mira Costa is 1-6 and 0-2.

Crespi 43, Alemany 7--Sophomore Russell White had 233 yards and touchdown runs of 1, 77 and 73 yards in 17 carries in the Del Rey League game at Crespi. The Times’ No. 5 ranked team improved its 7-0 overall and its league record to 2-0. White, with 1,226 yards in 81 carries, is averaging 15.2 yards per carry. Alemany is 1-6 and 0-2.

Colton 44, Rubidoux 18--Colton’s George Hemingway, the Southern Section’s leading rusher, had touchdown runs of 25, 1, and 3 yards and had 145 yards in 20 carries in the Citrus Belt League game at Colton. Hemingway has 1,400 yards and 15 touchdowns in 158 carries. Colton is 5-2 overall and 3-1 in the league. Rubidoux is 3-4 and 1-3.

Canyon 35, Burroughs 3--The Golden League win at Burroughs moved Canyon to within one victory of the all-time Southern Section record of 46 consecutive wins set by Temple City from 1970-74. Canyon quarterback Ken Sollom, the Southern Section leader coming into the game, completed 16 of 23 passes for 222 yards and 1 touchdown. Sollom has completed 89 of 150 passes for 1,587 yards and 15 touchdowns. Canyon, The Times’ No. 3 ranked team is now 7-0 overall and 2-0 in the league. Burroughs is 0-6-1 and 0-2.
