Todd Santos completed a five-yard touchdown pass to split end Alfred Jackson with two seconds left, and Kevin Rahill added the clinching extra point as San Diego State beat Colorado State, 27-26, Saturday in a Western Athletic Conference game at Fort Collins, Colo.

The dramatic finish offset a 20-point Colorado State fourth-quarter rally and raised the Aztecs’ WAC record to 4-1, giving them the inside track in the race for the title and an automatic Holiday Bowl berth. Colorado State is 3-2.

Overall, San Diego State and Colorado State are 5-3.

Kelly Stouffer’s two touchdown passes in the final period had given CSU a 26-20 lead with 1:12 remaining.

He entered Saturday’s game trailing, 14-7, and completed touchdown passes of 17, 5 and 8 yards to Anthony Sargent, and 3 yards to Scott Joseph.

Meanwhile, Ned James broke a New Mexico school record for total offense with 575 yards, completing 27 of 47 passes for 457 yards and running 25 times for 118 yards.
