Anaheim : City Officials to Inspect Sports Arena in Tacoma
A five-member delegation from the city left Sunday on a 24-hour trip to Tacoma, Wash., to inspect a sports arena similar to one being proposed here.
The officials planned to return today, city spokeswoman Sheri Erlewine said.
During the brief visit, they were scheduled to meet with architects of the Tacoma Dome and review construction schedules, inspection procedures and operation of the facility, Erlewine said.
The city is considering a $40-million sports arena known as the Westdome on land next to Anaheim Stadium. City officials hope that the proposed arena will attract a National Basketball Assn. franchise.
City Manager William O. Talley, Assistant City Manager Ronald Bates, City Engineer Gary Johnson, City Building Inspector Wayne West and Project Manager Ron Rothschild are making the trip, Erlewine said.
Next month, the City Council will consider financing environmental reviews and authorizing staff to negotiate with owners of properties that form the site of the proposed arena.
