South Carolina Takes Lead in USIU Golf Tournament

South Carolina took a three-shot lead in the team race after one round of the seventh annual United States International University Women’s Intercollegiate Golf Tournament at the Rancho Bernardo Inn and Country Club.

Martina Koch of Arizona, Marianne Morris of South Carolina and Margarett Platt of Auburn are tied for the lead with rounds of one-under par 71. Kelly Brananon of South Carolina is four shots back at 75. Eight players, including Laurette Maritz of USIU and Joann Walker of San Diego State, shot four-over 76.

Arizona is two shots back at 305. Auburn and Georgia each have 311. Stanford and USIU are tied for fifth with 312 each. San Diego State is 12th at 323. The second round of the three-round tournament begins at 6:45 a.m. today.
