Passing: It has been the year of the quarterback among Valley-area Southern Section teams. Seventeen have passed for more than 1,000 yards in the 10-game regular season; three--Jim Bonds, Ken Sollom and Jeff Barrett--have more than 2,000 yards.

Records: Khalid Ali, with 1,102 yards rushing, is the first Granada Hills player ever to rush for more than 1,000 yards, breaking Bob McKinley’s school record of 818, set in 1967. Ali also has school season records for touchdowns rushing (16), points scored (108), a single game record of 218 yards rushing and career records of 1,740 yards rushing, 187 points and 24 touchdowns. . . . Abo Velasco, with 1,046 yards rushing, is the first Burbank player since Kenny Walker in 1975 to surpass 1,000. Velasco also set a school season record with six interceptions and tied brother Alfredo, a kicker at UCLA, for the school season record of five field goals. . . . Westlake’s Chris Mann caught 37 passes for 607 yards, both school records.

Defense: Kennedy’s defense held San Fernando to minus-15 yards Friday. The Golden Cougars have allowed 296 yards rushing and 434 yards passing in 9 games, an average of 81.1 per game.
