Community College Basketball Roundup : Thomas Leads Rancho Santiago to an Easy Win

Simon Thomas scored 27 points to lead Rancho Santiago College to a 113-70 victory over the Biola junior varsity Friday night. The victory puts the Dons in the final of the Tip Off Tournament in Santa Ana.
The Dons play College of the Desert at 8 p.m. The Roadrunners defeated Pomona Pitzker junior varsity, 104-69.
In the Saddleback PONY Tournament:
Saddleback 72, Moorpark 57--Guards Tom Desiano had 19 points and Mike Minier 17 to lead the Gauchos.
Saddleback plays Grossmont today in the tournament finals. Grossmont defeated Pasadena City College, 88-83, Friday.
In nonconference play:
Rio Hondo 74, Cypress 72--Leading scorer Reggie Hollis sank two free throws with five seconds left to break a 72-72 tie and give the Roadrunners (3-1) the victory at Rio Hondo.
The Chargers (2-3) had one last shot to tie the score, but Jim Sammon missed a jumper with two seconds left.
Hollis scored 24 points and Scott Richardson added 20 for Rio Hondo. Sammon led the Chargers with 16 points, and Reuben Patton of Cypress came of the bench to contribute 13 points and 8 rebounds.
