She may be a freshman at Cal State Northridge, but Darcy Arreola has been chosen as a high school All-American by Track and Field News magazine.
Based on her high school achievements, Arreola was ranked second in the mile behind Suzy Favor of Stevens Point High in Wisconsin.
Arreola won the state title at 1,600 meters in June while attending Grossmont High in La Mesa. Her 4:42.77 personal best converts to a 4:44.43 mile.
Quincy Watts of Taft, Melissa Sutton of Newbury Park and former Van Nuys standout Kelley Peacock of UCLA also made the national list.
Watts, the state champion at 200 meters as a sophomore, was fifth in that event with his 20.97 personal best and Sutton was ninth on the two-mile list with her converted 10:33.64.
UCLA freshman Peacock, who won three City Section titles for Van Nuys, was eighth on the 300-meter low hurdles list with her 42.79 best.
