Serra High School picked up where it left off last season with a tournament-record 120-15 victory over Fallbrook Monday night in the opening round of the Laguna Beach basketball tournament.
The Cavaliers averaged 90 points per game last year and were the runner-up to Mater Dei in the Southern Section’s 5-A division.
Serra, led by James Moses’ 27 points, used an effective full-court press that kept Fallbrook scoreless from the field until only 50 seconds remained in the first half. The Cavaliers held a 62-6 lead at halftime.
The Cavaliers fell 20 points short of their Southern Section record of 140 points established in 1981 against Salesian.
