United States International University’s basketball team tried to use the three-point line to break a five-game losing streak Monday night.

The Gulls, however, hit only 4 of 22 attempts from three-point range and remained winless with an 88-65 loss to St. Mary’s College at Moraga.

USIU (0-6) scored six straight points to pull within 16-14 with 9:50 left in the half. But Paul Roberts started a string of eight straight points for St. Mary’s (4-3) with a three-point shot and USIU never threatened again.

St. Mary’s Robert Haugen led all scorers with 27 points and 10 rebounds; Robertson finished with 20 points. The Gaels outrebounded the Gulls, 50-29.
