Beniquez Is Traded to Royals for Pair of Minor Leaguers

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Kansas City Royals traded two minor league prospects to the Baltimore Orioles Wednesday for outfielder Juan Beniquez in another move to bolster their offense.
The Royals, who were 13th in the American League in runs scored the past two seasons, acquired power-hitting outfielder Danny Tartabull from the Seattle Mariners last week.
In the latest move, the Royals obtained Beniquez, 35, a veteran right-handed batter, from the Orioles, who did not pick up his option for next season. They sent shortstop Joe Jarrell and right-handed pitcher Jimmy Daniel, both of the Double-A Memphis Chicks, to Baltimore.
