John Carroll, football coach at Kennedy High School for the past three seasons, announced his resignation Thursday.

Carroll was 4-26 at Kennedy, including an 0-10 season in 1986 in which the Irish finished the season with only 32 varsity players.

“I felt there should be another coach after three losing years,” Carroll said. “I also thought it was time for me to move on and grow. The decision didn’t come without some personal pain.

Carroll said he is not burned out, and plans to coach next season. He also said he plans to remain in the Anaheim Unified High School District as a teacher.

Next season Kennedy will move from the traditionally strong Empire League into the Garden Grove League, where the Irish figure to be more competitive. Kennedy’s freshmen team won the league title and its sophomore team finished 7-2-1.
