Madison 65, Serra 36--Jeff Harper had 9 points in Madison’s 19-3 first-quarter spurt and Serra never got closer at Serra. Robby Robinson had 19 points and Harper added 15 for Madison (1-0, 10-4). Serra (0-1, 2-12) was led by Todd Knight’s 9 points.

PALOMAR LEAGUE

San Dieguito 45, Torrey Pines 44--Shawn Caster scored his only basket of the game with 17 seconds remaining to provide San Dieguito (3-0, 9-5) with the victory at Torrey Pines. Chris Bahr scored 17 points for San Dieguito. Torrey Pines (3-1, 13-4) was led by Courtie Miller, who had 12 points.

Poway 60, Fallbrook 52--Poway outscored Fallbrook 10-3 in the third quarter for its first league victory. Dave Delaney scored 16 points and Ty Nichols added 15 for Poway (1-3, 8-6). Mike West paced Fallbrook (1-2, 7-10) with 18.

AVOCADO LEAGUE

El Camino 89, Carlsbad 58--Edmond Johnson and Lee Cobb combined for 20 of El Camino’s 33 fourth-quarter points at El Camino. Carlsbad (1-3, 3-10) led 31-28 at the half and trailed by 8 entering the fourth quarter but was outscored 33-10. Johnson had a game-high 34 points and Cobb added 23 for El Camino (3-0, 13-2). Shaun Stoll led Carlsbad with 22 points.

Ramona 41, San Pasqual 27--Ramona (2-1, 9-5) led by only two after three quarters but hit 11 of 13 free throws in the fourth quarter to pull away at San Pasqual. John Liechty scored 12 points to lead Ramona. San Pasqual, which played slow-down much of the night, fell to 0-4, 2-11.

CITY CENTRAL LEAGUE

Christian 54, San Diego 42--Center Darrell White scored 8 of his 10 points as Christian used an 18-7 second-quarter spurt to take the lead for good at home. San Diego (0-1, 0-10) led 16-11 after the first quarter and were as close as 39-35 entering the fourth. Christian (1-0, 11-4), which outscored San Diego, 15-7, in the fourth quarter, was led by Doug Lake’s 13 points. Anthony Wines led San Diego with 16.

Crawford 48, St. Augustine 46--James Henry made a jumper with 7 seconds left in the game for the victory at St. Augustine. With star center Charlie Applegate on the bench with foul trouble, St. Augustine (0-1, 8-4) turned a 25-21 halftime deficit into a 38-33 lead. Crawford (1-0, 4-9) then outscored St. Augustine 15-7 in the fourth quarter. Applegate fouled out with 31 seconds left.

CITY WESTERN LEAGUE

La Jolla 56, University City 41--Sean Rodgers scored 12 points and had 11 rebounds to lead La Jolla (1-0, 11-4) at home. Adam Kleid scored 12 and Jerome Sherman added 11. Alan Peller and Durell Sims each scored 14 for University City (0-1).

USDHS 44, Mission Bay 38--Matt Seidlinger scored 24 points to help Unversity of San Diego High (1-0, 4-9) to the win at home over Mission Bay. USDHS led 21-18 at halftime but outscored Mission Bay (0-1, 4-5) 14-6 in the third quarter to pull away. Dwain Smith scored 13 points to lead Mission Bay.

GROSSMONT LEAGUE

Monte Vista 69, El Capitan 65--Feliz Parra made both ends of a one-and-one with 40 seconds left to give Monte Vista (6-1, 9-3) a commanding 69-61 lead. James Gotell led Monte Vista with 24 points and Scott Winne added 22 points. Danny Curtis led El Capitan (2-5, 6-7) with 23.

Valhalla 38, El Cajon 37-- Dan Chase scored on a layup with one second remaining to give Valhalla (6-1, 10-3) a share of first place. Troy Toolson led Valhalla with 14 points and 6 assists. P.J. Panebianco paced El Cajon Valley with 13 points. (3-4, 7-6).

METRO CONFERENCE

Sweetwater 70, Hilltop 61 (ot)--Sweetwater outscored Hilltop 13-4 in overtime for the win. Ricardo Sandoval scored 22 points off the bench and Brent Lawrence added 14 for Sweetwater (4-1, 7-9). Bryan Brooker Paced Hilltop (2-3, 9-10) with 22 points. Hilltop led 21-9 after first quarter.

Crawford 61, Our Lady of Peace 41--Karla Salmi scored 24 points and Laura Hatcher added 12 points and 24 rebounds for Crawford (1-0, 13-1). Katie Clapp paced Our Lady of Peace (0-1, 5-7) with 15 points.

GROSSMONT LEAGUE

Santana 69, Grossmont 43--Leslie Ellis scored 28 points to lead Santana (7-0, 11-3) past Grossmont at Santana High. Barb Bennett scored 12 points and Rebecca Aase added 10 to help Santana. LaFrania West scored 14 for Grossmont, which fell to 4-3, 11-3.
